Cambridge residents could see the cost of parking permits rise by a whopping 85%!

In shocking plans revealed on Friday, Cambridge residents were dealt a severe blow as they were told the price of their parking permits could be rising by 85% in April.

If plans are approved, residents of Brunswick, Kite, Park Street and Regent Terrace areas will see their annual fee rise from £50 to £81. Those living on Guest Road will see the biggest increase from £41 to £76 and around Tenison Road, charges will reach £70.

Visitor permits would also be increased from the current £1 per day to £1.60.

Plans also include a 50% hike in the cost of pay and display charges in the city centre.

It is argued that price increases are needed to subsidise the city's park and ride service, which costs the council £1 million a year, and to fund much needed road improvements.

The price rises are expected to bring in an extra £335,000 per year.

Cabinet members will address the proposals on February 22nd and if plans are approved, the increased prices will come into effect from April.
