Private Ryan Campbell, a 22 year old soldier from Cambridge, was greeted by none other than David Beckham on his return from the frontline.
The former England captain visited Afghanistan as a surprise to soldiers serving abroad this summer. He met six members of the 1st Battalion of The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment as they returned back to Camp Bastion from a long patrol in the region, weighed down with weapons and equipment.
Ryan and his five colleagues were unaware David would be there to welcome them back to base.
Major Simon Walton commented: "They obviously didn’t realise Beckham was here after being on the frontline for two months. They will go back home on leave on a real high."
