We're now most definitely into Autumn and with that comes October half term!

For Cambridgeshire, schools will be breaking up on Friday the 25th of October and then will return on Monday 4th of November.

Some families may be jetting off to warmer climates during the week's holiday before our temperatures drop further.  But other families will be watching the pennies in the run up to Christmas and, therefore, will be looking at ways to entertain the children locally in Cambridge.

Well, look no further...

There are plenty of activities in the Cambridge area to keep your family busy this half-term– some that make the most of the outdoors during this beautiful season, and others that make the most of the indoors in case of the not-so-beautiful, seasonal downpours!

Bomb-dropping, dam-busting adventures at the IWM!

To mark the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters Raid, the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, near Cambridge, are retelling the story through spoken word, models, paintings and artefacts.  To compliment this, the IWM is hosting a whole host of interactive activities for the children this half-term – there will be the chance to dress up in uniform, attempt to hit the dam with a specially-commissioned model and get creative with plenty of arts and crafts.

The museum is open daily from 10am to 6pm – half term activities will be running every day of the holidays from 11am to 3pm.  Tickets are £17.50 per adult, but all children under 16 are free.  For more information, call 01223 835000.

Pumpkins perish during archery sessions!

At the National Trust's Ickworth House, there will be plenty of family fun as archery for all ages is offered with a Halloween twist – will you be able to hit the poor pumpkins that have replaced the usual targets?

Archery will be available from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday the 26th and 27th.  Tickets (for seven arrows) costs £3.  For more information call 01284 735270.

Help get nature ready for winter with the RSPB!

As British Summer Time officially ends, the RSPB want to encourage you to look after the wildlife in your garden this winter.  Activities including tractor rides, crafts and bird-watching will be provided at a local Cambridge farm.

The Falling Leaves Festival will run from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 27th of October at Burwash Manor Farm in Barton.  Entry and activities are free.

Laugh your pants off at the theatre!

The best-selling children's book by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort, Aliens Love Underpants, will be brought to the stage in Cambridge this half-term.  There's bound to be much hilarity, amazing effects, action, adventure and... aliens!!

Aliens Love Underpants will be performed at 1.30pm on Monday 28th, and 10.30am and 1.30pm on Tuesday the 29th of October at the Cambridge Corn Exchange.  Tickets cost £12 and discounts for groups and schools are available.  For more information, call 01223 357851.

Craft creations of horrific halloween ghouls and monsters!

Putrid Pumpkins and Monster Masks will be a day of halloween-themed crafts and challenges at Ickworth House to keep your gruesome children devilishly entertained!

This event will run from 11am to 3pm on Thursday 31st of October.  Tickets cost £3 to include activities and a pumpkin.  For more information, call 01284 735270.

Whatever you do this half-term, stay warm and have lots and lots of Autumnal fun!
