Try this BBC Food recipe for mulled wine (twisted a little by us)
Put the wine in a saucepan with the orange, sugar, bay leaf and the spices. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Taste to see if you want the wine sweeter, and add more sugar to taste. Off the heat, stir in the sloe or damson gin if you are using it. Strain into heatproof glasses and serve at once.
With or without some warmed mince pies, give this to the folks at your party and it will be a great success.
Tip: To improve the quality of the red wine, empty the contents into a jug and whisk the wine. This lets in air and can improve the quality of the taste. Try it for yourself!
Enjoy.
