Cambridge has the honour of hosting a special event as the Olympic torch makes its way around the country in the build-up to London 2012 this summer.
The council’s annual Big Weekend of celebrations will form the backdrop, which will be illuminated by the arrival of the symbolic torch on 8th July.
The event, which takes place on Parkers Piece, will see three days of free live music, cultural entertainment and sport to showcase the city’s sporting and cultural heritage.
Cambridge will host one of 66 evening celebrations nationwide on the 8,000 mile trip around the nation ahead of its trip to the Olympic Stadium to light the beacon at the stadium.
And the thousands of people expected to attend the celebrations in Cambridge will get a taste of the big event as a cauldron will be lit from the flame to mark an end to the day's proceedings.
