Police have warned they will be on standby should an illegal gathering go ahead in place of the annual Strawberry Fair.
Police held a meeting in Cambridge this week to assure local residents that the force had planned for 'any eventuality' after protesters posted messages online urging protestors to 'kick off' on the day.
Two notices posted on Facebook accused local Police of 'intimidation' towards the organisers of the fair, but Sup Mike Brown of Cambridgeshire Police responded by outling there had been just as many positive messages posted in response urging people to enjoy a 'day of fun'.
Police successfully opposed a bid to prevent Strawberry Fair organisers obtaining a licence for this year's gathering on June 5th and local residents voiced fears at the meeting this week that an unofficial fair could quickly become a problem for neighbouring communities.
