Christmas is coming and there are lighted and trees going up all over the place, but with ever-rising energy prices, petrol increases and the ongoing threat of recession, times are a bit tough for a lot of us.
So to help you save a few pounds and have an enjoyable Christmas, thebestof Cambridge have some money saving tips.
1 - Shop around, even online
The convenience of simply typing 'Amazon' into your computer for a shopping spree can't be underestimated, but be aware that there are plenty of other online retailers who can be cheaper. So have a look around. Many also offer free postage as a further saving. It's a good idea to do online shopping reasonably early to avoid the postal rush.
2 - Voucher codes
Some sites have vouchers out there in cyberspace that just need you to find them. Google around and see what you can find. Some will be expired and some just wont work, but there are a few which will give you genuine discounts. It doesn't hurt to give them a try. Other sites may offer a discount for signing up to a newsletter. Don't want the spam? Simple, open a new e-mail account online and just use that!
3 - Keep your eyes open.
Supermarkets tend to have certain items on special offer for a short time. If you see something you want for the festivities for a knockdown price, snap it up. You're only going to buy it later anyway!
4 - Direct Delivery
If you're buying something bulky online with a delivery cost, for someone you may not see over the Christmas period, try and get it from a site that offers gift wrapping and have it delivered direct to the recipient. That way you're only paying for postage once.
5 - Plan your cards
Never leave Christmas cards until the last minute. Do it a week earlier than usual and use second class post. With a 10p difference per stamp, it soon adds up.
