The snow may have started to thaw but the roads are still treacherous

The snow may have abated for a few days but the freezing weather is set to continue for a while yet.

However, despite this uncertain forecast, the national shortage of salt means that miles and miles of roads in Cambridge and the surrounding county will not be treated.

The Government has ordered all local authorities to cut the amount of rock salt being spread by 25%, which means that the county council has had to review its gritting operation.

Only A roads and a 'priority network' of B roads, waterside fenland roads and hospital access routes will be gritted.

Roads that will be gritted are:

  • M11
  • A14
  • A428
  • A10
  • A505
  • A1307

However, the following roads in Cambridgeshire will not be salted:

  • Mill Road
  • East Road
  • Cherry Hinton Road
  • Numerous Roads Linking Cambridgeshire Villages

You can find a list of roads being gritted, complete with maps by clicking here.

Stay Safe on the Roads

The Best of Cambridge wants to make sure that you are all as safe as possible. Make sure that you have warm clothing, boots, a shovel, torch etc in the boot of your car if you are venturing out during ad weather.

And if your car does break down in the cold weather, give our recommended Cambridge garage a call - you can get their details by clicking here.
