Toll roads could be on the way to Cambridgeshire after they featured in a number of proposed projects to improve the A14 in a scheme that could cost up to £1bn to implement.
After a £1.3bn plan to widen and reroute the road was dropped in 2010, the Government has come up with 11 new possible proposals, of which more than half include major road building - and five feature the controversial toll booths.
Other options include both widening and adding to the existing road network or adding parallel roads to help local traffic avoid tolls.
The proposals centre in the most part on plans for a bypass for Huntingdon South, but there were questions as to whether they were any improvement on the dropped plans of two years ago which models showed would see a significant increase in traffic in Cambridge itself.
The proposals also included possible improvements and expansions of the guided busway, park and ride and bus services.
