In the Beginning: Music of Myth and Creation
  • Jesus College Chapel, Cambridge CB5 8BL
    CB5 8BL
  • Saturday 29th March 7:30pm until 9:15pm
Bernstein’s Chichester psalms, in the original Hebrew, are an eruption of joy: dynamic and irrepressible, beautiful and menacing. Bernstein’s contemporary Copland reaches back to the creation of all things in the audacious In the beginning, which leads us to other startling music of myth and creation by Arvo Pärt and Sarah Rimkus. Along the way, there's also Lassus, with a remarkable setting of the famous opening of the Gospel of John ('In the beginning was the Word'), along with Rachmaninov, in an extract from his famous All-night vigil. A feast of creation, with the New Cambridge Singers and top-class soloists.
