The Complete University Guide has named Canterbury as the safest university City in England and Wales.  Canterbury takes the number one spot from Bath who slip into second place.

The rankings are compiled from official police data of the 25 towns and cities outside London with 2 or more universities.

Bernard Kingston, founder of The Complete University Guide, said: ‘While the quality of tuition and the prospects for employment after graduation are key elements in choosing a university course, it is important not to overlook other aspects of the environment in which the student will be living for three or more years.’

Every year the University of Kent provides updated personal safety and security advice to its students. The University also operates its own campus security service, providing night time walking security escorts and free personal alarms to students.

Carry a personal alarm.

Try to avoid walking home on your own in the dark and make sure you are familiar with any late night transport.

Always carry laptops hidden inside a sports bag rather than in an obvious case.

Make sure outside doors are fitted with a Yale-type lock and five lever mortise deadlock.
