Changes to the welfare system and a lack of affordable rented accommodation are behind a rise in homelessness in Kent, according to Canterbury-based homeless charity Porchlight.
The numbers have gone up by a quarter in the last year and Chief executive of the charity, Mike Barrett has said he expects the upsurge to continue.
Porchlight can be contacted on 0800 567 7699 if anybody is worried about someone who is sleeping rough in the local area. They operate an outreach service that could attempt to make contact to offer help.
Another local charity supporting the homeless in the Canterbury area is Catching Lives which can be reached on 01227 464904.
