I was in London for a couple of days taking in a few friends, a bit of Christmas shopping a reunion of former cricket colleagues at a dinner at Lord's and my first time on the London Eye!
Adventures and great fun (except perhaps the Christmas shopping) in all my activities. Now I have always loved Ferris wheels and have been on the 50m one that comes to Cardiff on many occasions - although I went on an even bigger one in Nice one Christmas but I digress... so I noticed that this year the Cardiff wheel which I think is sponsored by John Lewis is enclosed - so probably less chilly than previously.
This is great news as the spectacular views across Cardiff can be spoilt if you can't stop your teeth chattering.
So if you haven't been to the Cardiff Winter Wonderland in front of the Civic Centre it is well worth a visit! Details
Now what about the London Eye. It was a stunning, clear afternoon and you could see as far as my binoculars would allow. It was genuinely a wow as you looked across London.
Now, question - what does our spectacular city of Cardiff lack on a permanent basis? Not much, but it has no real permanent high viewing point across the city. We should have one.
Almost every major city I have visited has a tower or elevated building from which you can see right across the city and is available for the public to view from. They are always a huge tourist attraction and great to get a feel for a city if you are visiting for the first time and along with a tourist bus are a great way to bond with a city very quickly.
So....another campaign - let's get a viewing platform for Cardiff. I wanted one on the side of the Cardiff City Stadium but the opportunity has probably gone.
So the council should be thinking about encouraging one on the next major building project in Cardiff - they really are a major money spinner and a genuine touriist attraction.
What do you think? Is Cardiff missing out?
