When you want a day out and the sun isn’t shining, where do you go in Cardigan & Teifi Valley? There are plenty of great castles and country houses to visit, but why not do something really different? Buzz on down to the New Quay Honey Farm. It’s fascinating. And the café is great.

There’s sunshine in the scrumptious honey and the ice cream here has a reputation far and wide. So you can still have a great day out if it’s raining. Plus, a visit to New Quay Honey Farm is a fabulous excursion into the world of the bees.
You can get close to the amazing world of the honey bee in the exhibition, where visitors can see live colonies of bees in complete safety from behind glass.
Natural bee nests hang from branches and inside hollow logs. You can watch the bees fly in and out with their loads of pollen and nectar, watch them interact with each other, share food and communicate using their various dances. Yes, they really do dance!
You can even see inside the brood nest of the hive, see the queen lay eggs and watch bees emerging from their cells.
There is a good display of information about bees, hives and beekeeping with posters, videos and actual examples, from the beginning to the present day.
There is also a tropical ant colony in the exhibition showing another fascinating social insect at work.
There are 500 hives spread over the beautiful unspoilt countryside of Ceredigion and the Honey Farm shop has some of the most wonderful tasting honey and mead.
There are many other honey-related products on sale – all made at the Farm. And there is a tempting selection of books, honey-based cosmetics and gifts.
The Tea Room sells delicious home made cakes, all baked on site. And don’t forget the homemade ice creams.
There’s a Meadery too, where honey wine is produced using the traditional method of fermenting honey and a display in here shows the importance of mead in Welsh history and lets you see how mead is made today. You can try as many of the different meads as you like, but better take some home if you are driving!
