Check out what’s on at Theatr Mwldan in Cardigan to get you started.
Great programme for summer
Whether you are a fan of opera, fine art, Shakespeare, ballet, contemporary drama, live screening in high definition is a great way to see some of the world’s top performances and shows without leaving the area, and at a fraction of the price.
Many of the live screenings scheduled this summer are already on the programme at Theatr Mwldan in Cardigan.
Here’s a selection of what’s coming up:
June 10 – you can see the Royal Opera’s most popular opera, Puccini’s La Boheme. This is the last chance to see John Copley’s production, which has been regularly revived since it first opened in 1974. Some of greatest opera stars are returning to bid farewell to this staging, including Anna Netrebko as Mimi and Joseph Calleja as her lover, Rodolfo.
July 1 – From the London Coliseum a live screening of Carmen’s Bizet from the English National Opera. This opera is a raw depiction of lust in 19th-century Seville and in this popular ENO production the action is a full-on battle of the sexes fought out in the arena of the Spanish bullring.
July 5 – Rossini’s final opera, William Tell, also from the Royal Opera, and featuring the young Italian director Damiano Michieletto making his debut.
July 16 – National Theatre Live brings us Everyman, featuring Chiwetel Ejiofor (BAFTA winner and Academy Award nominee for 12 Years a Slave). He takes the title role in this great new production.
August 10 – the Royal Shakespeare Company with The Merchant of Venice. This production is directed by Polly Findlay.
Also upcoming from the RSC on live screenings at Theatr Mwldan are Othello and Henry V.
