Industrial heritage museum dedicated to the internal combustion engine and the past 100 years of its history, complete with running exhibits.

The museum was founded in 2003 and was set up to cover the history and use of large engines in the 20th century. 

The museum houses a wide range of working exhibits with engines running daily.

Highlights of the museum includes:

  • The oldest daily working Diesel engine in the world
  • Large engines up to 30 tons running every day  
  • Working vintage telephone exchanges for the visitors to try 
  • 4000hp Proteus jet engine  
  • Crafts in the Café certain months in summer check website  
  • Draw the engines for the kids  
  • Amateur Radio station available to license holders

Opening Times

  • November - March: Open only if arranged first.
  • April - July & September and October: Wednesday - Sunday from 10:30 until 17:00.
  • August: Monday - Sunday from 10:30 until 17:00.

Admission charges

  • Adults: £6.00
  • Concessions: £5.00
  • Students: £5.00
  • Children (under 12): £3.50
  • Family Ticket: £16.00
  • Armed Forces: No charge:
  • Friends of the museum and under 5s go free.
  • Discount for groups, coaches welcome.
