The appalling news of of a girl's death following what should have been a routine cervical cancer vaccination has raised much consternation. This vaccine is an important defence against a cancer which claims about 1000 women's lives in the UK each year
Although I don't have a daughter, I have a very close friend in Spain who underwent chemotherapy, and then surgery following diagnosis of cervical cancer.
She has a six year old daughter, and in conversation with her yesterday we discussed the recent UK events. Without any hesitation, she told me that she considered the risks associated with vaccination of her own daughter to be so small as to be negligible.
