There’s some great entertainment for families this summer on board the Gwili Railway steam trains and vintage diesels in Carmarthenshire. Enjoy a delicious cream tea on the Bronwydd Belle, a 1950s specially equipped dining train; or grab a fish and chip supper while you travel through beautiful countryside one evening. 

Time for a treat

A scrumptious cream tea on board the Bronwydd Belle steam train will remind you of genteel days when the pace of life was more relaxed. A treat for all the family, a Gwili Railway cream tea includes two large scones, Welsh butter, locally sourced preserves and clotted cream. Gwili Steam Railway is at Bronwydd Arms Station, Carmarthen SA33 6HT.

And if you fancy a great fish and chip supper (not on the same day,of course!) they are available on the special Gwili Fryer Trains. The Railway has teamed up with West End Cafe in Carmarthen to run this service.

The Heritage Diesel Railcar, the Scenic Explorer, will run three fish and chip supper trains every Saturday evening in August with an on-board real-ale bar. 

As the train makes its way through the picturesque Carmarthenshire countryside you can enjoy traditional fish (or sausage) and chips, freshly cooked at West End Cafe and delivered direct to your train seat.  Buy soft drinks or real ale from the on-board bar and relax and enjoy Saturday night on the Gwili Fryer. 

You can take a break at Llwyfan Cerrig Station and enjoy the riverside picnic site or stay on board and hear stories about the railway past and present from volunteers and visitors. It’s the ideal end to a summer's day exploring west Wales. 

The trains depart at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. Booking is advised.

The Gwili Steam Railway operates a standard gauge preserved railway from Bronwydd (three miles north of Carmarthen) along a short section of the former Carmarthen to Aberystwyth railway that closed for passenger traffic in 1965.
