A charity that has worked out of a shed for the last 14 years is finally moving back into a more permanent form of accommodation.
Chelmsford Mencap is moving back to its base in Mildmay Road, Chelmsford, after working out of a garden shed and rented offices for 14 years, but before staff open the doors at the end of October, they are calling for help from businesses and tradesmen.
The charity is hoping that people will give an extra pair of hands to help get its headquarters ready for a relaunch.
The charity provides clubs for children and adults with learning disabilities in and around the Chelmsford area.
Mencap spokesperson Alex Stammers said the self-funding charity is now appealing for assistance with some renovation work and it is also in need of office equipment.
The new centre will offer opportunities to build links with the community.
Alex added: “The centre will provide a place for families and carers to meet and obtain vital support and information.”
