Chelmsford Police has warned local 4x4 drivers to be on the look out this week after a spate of vehicle thefts.

A Freelander and three Range Rovers were stolen after thieves broke into local motorists homes to get hold of the keys to the vehicles.

Local Police believe that Land Rovers are being specifically targeted by thieves who are stealing them 'to order'.

The latest theft took place early Saturday morning when a Land Rover Vogue was stolen from outside a home in Pump Lane after burglars broke in through the front door to locate the keys.

DCI Mark Wheeler from Essex Police explained: "There are a few simple steps people can take to make themselves safer. Ensure you keep your keys safe and out of sight. Do not leave cash, bags and wallets lying around and keep all accessible doors and windows closed and locked."

Anyone with information or concerns should contact detectives on 0300 3334444, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
