With only weeks to go until the very first Chelmsford Marathon, the excitement amongst Essex runners is reaching fever pitch!
The limit to the number of runners in its first year is 2,000 and it looks as though that will be reached within the last few days. The final date that entries will be accepted is 10th enabling packs, race numbers and chips to be organised in time.
Fiona Oakes, the record-breaking marathon runner, who in July 2014 was recognised by the Guinness World Records as the fastest woman to run a marathon on all 7 continents – plus the North Pole - will be giving out medals and the winner’s trophies on the day of the Marathon.
Fiona is well known by Marathon runners everywhere, not only for her record breaking achievements, but also for her life-long commitment to Veganism and her support of animals everywhere – along with her partner Martin she runs the Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary, generously providing a home for 350 animals.
“We are thrilled to have Fiona involved with the Chelmsford Marathon – she is a serious runner and we intend for the Chelmsford Marathon to become a serious race that improves year-on- year. We would also love for one of our runners to become a record-breaker on the day – perhapsshe’ll provide some inspiration!”
Nikki Perry, Communications Manager
