In addition, every year about 70 people are killed and 350,000 seriously injured in electrical accidents at home. Many of these accidents and deaths could be prevented by RCD protection, yet more than half of us - that's 13 million homes still have old dangerous fuse boxes like the one pictured.
An RCD is a life-saving device that protects against potentially fatal electric shocks and dramatically reduces the risk of electrical fires. RCD protected consumer units (fuse boxes) will switch off the electricity in a fraction of a second if you get an electric shock. Having a modern consumer unit fitted with RCDs gives you the best protection because they cover all the wiring, sockets and appliances in your home. Check whether your consumer unit is RCD protected.
Contact M-Spec now if you have just moved into a new house which does do not have an Electrical Test Certificate, or you are worried about the state of your existing installation. We can come, test and inspect your home to uncover any defects, damages or potential dangers, change your old board for a new RCD protected consumer unit and issue you with an Electrical Test Certificate.
