Finding the Best Childcare

Much is said in the media nowadays about the costs of childcare, which is of course important, but most parents are concerned about choosing the kind of childcare that is best for their child.  Parents need to feel that when they can leave their child or children in care they can do so with peace of mind knowing the child will be safe and happy until their return.

If you are looking for care for your child then you need to visit the nursery in advance and spend some time.  Do give thought to the following:

  • Do the children seem happy and contented?
  • How do the carers behave with the children – are they kind and deal calmly with them? What is the ratio of carers to children?
  • What is the atmosphere like?  Is it buzzing with activity and is there a quiet place for children to rest?
  • Is there a place for children to sleep?
  • What kinds of activities are available to the children?
  • How is the day structured and what is discipline like?
  • What is the food like? Good nutrition is important for all aspects of child welfare.
