The aim of the new signage is to help tourists find their way about and to encourage people to walk, cycle and take buses to and from Cheltenham town centre. The hope is that this will give a boost to economy in the town centre.
Townscape Manager, Wilf Tomaney, says: “The new signs will be much more user friendly, and will also benefit the wider community. Cheltenham has a number of ‘fringe’ shopping areas which are considered difficult to find from the town centre, for example Montpellier, High Street West End, Suffolks and Bath Road. These areas should see significant benefits from the signage and traders are extremely supportive of the project.”
Designs for the new signage are well under way and it is hoped that phase one will be in place by March 2014. Phase One includes signage throughout the town centre including High Street and the Promenade.
