I only vaguely remember the film High Society when it appeared as a Sunday afternoon matinee in my childhood and knew nothing about the storyline. So it was really enjoyable last night to sit back and enter the world of the rich and privileged class of America in the 1930s.
High Society is a tangled love story set on the eve of Tracy Lord’s marriage to George Kitteridge – a fabulous affair with 700 guests. But as we know the course of true love never does run smooth and with the presence of Tracy’s ex husband Dexter Haven plus the eligible young writer Mike Connor, fun and confusion follow.
This performance was lively, enjoyable and very entertaining with the added magicality of some really great Cole Porter songs such as ‘True Love’ and ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’.
