This is a lovely story to tell children about kindness and generosity. It is an old tradition to go for a walk in the dark evening of Martinmas with lanterns to light the way.
In the evening we would have hot soup and rolls, wrap up warmly, light our little candles and go for a walk carrying our lanterns. The children loved the activities and it was a very economical, fun, safe and sociable thing to do, especially when we got a group of families together to take part.
