A Hunt & Laurence Production
The team of Rachel Laurence and Sandra Hunt, whose productions of The Ladies of Cranford, Talking Heads, Fast Woman and Lady Molly of Scotland Yard will be remembered fondly by audiences all over the country, bring The Key to the Garden to the Everyman Studio Cheltenham for 2 performances on Saturday 15 January. This funny, moving and spellbinding one woman play is preformed and written by Rachel Laurence and directed by Sandra Hunt. The Key to the Garden tells the story of the remarkable Frances Hodgson Burnett, who rose from humble beginnings in Salford to become the JK Rowling of her day – immensely wealthy, a close friend of the President of the USA and a bestselling author of classic books such as The Secret Garden, A Little Princess and Little Lord Fauntleroy.
Rachel Laurence’s credits include GBH, A Very British Coup, Coronation Street (where she played Beauty Queen Miss Weatherfield), EastEnders, Brookside, Grange Hill, Nanny, Medics, Cold Feet and Tales of the Unexpected. Films include John and Yoko – A Love Story, in which she played Cynthia Lennon, A Day in Summer and Business as Usual.
Rachel comments ‘The Secret Garden has unlocked a world of magic and happiness for readers all over the world. It is certainly one of my favourite books and Frances Hodgson Burnett’s life story is a complex and intriguing one – touched by both tragedy and joy. The more I find out about her the more my admiration for her grows.
