The planning application for the transformation of North Place and Portland Street car parks has moved to the next stage by winning approval at the council’s planning committee last Thursday, 21st February. The plans are for a development with mixed use i.e. affordable housing, multi-storey car park, a public square, and a bus node in order to transform the somewhat neglected area. There are also plans for a food store although no particular operator has yet been identified.
Jeremy Williamson, Managing Director for Cheltenham Development Taskforce believes this is excellent news and said: “The development will create new jobs and much needed housing, including a significant element which will be affordable, as well as providing the impetus for many other town centre improvements to begin.’’
The application can be viewed on the planning pages of the council’s website, with planning application reference: 12/01612/FUL.
