Air pollution is a topical problem right now in the news as research is showing it can be injurious to our health.  Pollution arises from various sources and activities such as traffic and transport emissions, agriculture and waste storage and treatment, industrial processes, energy generation,.  However, in Cheltenham the main sources come from road transport, as well as small contributions from heating sources (domestic, commercial and industrial).

Cheltenham is an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) and as there is now a slight increase in the levels of nitrogen dioxide in the borough the council has a duty to create and develop an Air Quality Action Plan.

Councillor Peter Jeffries, Cabinet Member for Housing, Safety and Communities, said: “Air quality is important for residents and visitors to Cheltenham and any improvements we can make should be welcomed. I would urge residents to let us know their opinions."
