Chedworth Roman Villa preserves what was one of the largest vilas in the country and dates back to the 4th century. Discover the history of the Roman Cotswolds and take a walk in the past of Chedworth’s heyday and its subsequent excavation.

The Romans brought over some influential inventions, many of which we still use today. These range from the art of mosaic, concrete, an early welfare program similar to our modern day health services, the satirical theatre movement, under-floor heating and even socks and shoes. The Roman lifestyle and their creations are an imperative part of our history; something that should be celebrated.

At Chedworth Roman Villa, history is brought to life whether it be in the newly refurbished museum, on a walk in the surrounding woodland, while stood over the excavated mosaics, or perhaps while re-enacting and getting involved with the Roman way of life. There is a buzz of activity and plenty of events to keep families entertained right throughout the year. Guided tours and group visits are available most days, as well as virtual tours with exclusive video clips as you walk around the ruins. Craft workshops are run at certain times of the year as well as an on-site demonstrator showing how to make traditional Roman handicrafts and their methods of cooking.
