Children and young people should have access to the best quality care, regardless of diagnosis or circumstances. This is WellChild’s mission. They focus upon a number of projects that provide high standard services that listen to the needs of the children, the parents and the carers.
With a Cheltenham headquarters and a dedicated board of trustees, WellChild provide services such as WellChild Children’s Nurses and Helping Hands home improvement, as well as funding invaluable research and campaigns for changes to children’s healthcare.
WellChild Nurses provide specialist care for children and young people, and they give valued support for their families. WellChild recognises the needs of children who benefit from care at home, and the programme is designed to ensure that each child has this option with access to the right care. The nurses monitor the future needs of both child and family with offers of emotional support, if needed.
The Helping Hands programme is a method of providing practical support to families with sick children. With the generous help of volunteers, the scheme is able to undertake home improvement projects that would benefit a family and the care of a child. Past projects have included bedroom redecorations and garden makeovers. To contact the Helping Hands team, you can download an application form or talk to them via telephone (0845 4588171) or via email at helpinghands@wellchild.or.uk
Research is another large aspect of the WellChild organisation. The charity is committed to funding researchers, clinicians and scientists around the UK. Since 1977, over £20 million has been invested into children’s health research, yet much more research can be done. WellChild continues to fund high standard and highly effective research that ensures better quality of clinical care for children and young people.
