Music is alive in Northleach’s museum of self-playing musical instruments. This traditional Cotswold town plays host to the world renowned restoration workshops and to a gift shop that has been described as the best gift shop in the county.

The World of Mechnical Music is a celebration of musical automata, the prides and joys of former generations.  It is a  'living' museum of self-playing objects. All the instruments are maintained to near-perfect conditions, introduced and played to visitors by the well-informed and truly devoted guides.

Reproducing pianos echo the concert performances by the likes of Grieg, Paderewski, Gerschwin and Rachmaninov in the Victorian style music room, while sounds from the 1930’s plays on the enormous EMG handmade gramophone elsewhere.

The Workshop at the World of Mechanical Music is a leading international restorer of musical boxes and clocks. Some examples of the incredible quality of work that is achieved here can be seen on the website and dotted around the museum. As well as restoring items of historic value, Keith Harding’s dedicated team of craftsmen will also examine sentimental and personal objects of musical automata. The team prides themselves on being able to provide the highest of standards and will also examine and estimate items entirely free of charge.

Current stock can be viewed on the website ranging from clocks to musical toys. Stock from the gift shop can also be purchased from novelty toys, children’s musical instruments and decorations to a large selection of books.
