From 2pm-4pm on Monday 26th August, the team at Sandfields on St George’s Road is welcoming the community and their furry friends to join residents in the homes café and gardens.
In attendance will be a therapy dog from Pets As Therapy, an organisation that aims to enhance health and wellbeing through the amazing bond between humans and animals.
Guests can also enjoy a selection of refreshments and treats in the company of furry friends. For four-legged guests, there will be a prize for the best pooch, a selection of dog treats, plenty of fuss from residents and the opportunity to play with other dogs.
Malaika Charles, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “Many of the residents at Sandfields have had pets in their younger years and International Dog Day is a wonderful opportunity for us to reminisce over old furry friends and create memories with new ones.
“Having dogs in the home not only encourages residents to spend time outdoors, leading to physical benefits, but it also helps improve wellbeing too – particularly for those living with dementia – as it can reduce anxiety and release calming endorphins.
“We’re delighted to be opening up our home to the community to celebrate International Dog Day and look forward to welcoming a mixture of new and familiar faces.”
