2012 has got off to a flying start for award winning international carver, Simon O’Rourke from Wrexham, North Wales.
After carving the tallest tree in the UK into a magnificent and awe-inspiring piece of art at Lake Vrnwy, Mid Wales, Simon has completed a bespoke sculpture trail at a state of the art new school site in Liverpool, carved giant mini- beasts at his local country park, and is now looking ahead to an incredible summer of wonderful projects and international competitions.
Simon said he is ‘incredibly honoured’ to have been chosen as the captain of Team Europe at the World Championships in Mulda, Germany in May. The Husquvana Cup is a prestigious, invite only competition, where chainsaw carvers from all around the world are invited each year to compete, carving unique pieces of art with the theme inspired by the event organiser, Andreas Martin.
Simon has been asked to be team Europe’s Captain this year, and said he is incredibly proud and excited to be working alongside so many other great carvers from around the world including his team mates, Tommy Craggs, from the North East of England, and Michael Tamosza, Germany. He is hopeful that his 3 man team will have what it takes to wow the judges and impress the crowds at this year’s World Championship.
Simon will also be carving at 2 competitions in North America this summer; Chetwynd Champions of Champions, and the 13th annual Chainsaw Championships in Reedsport, Oregan.
Simon will also be competing on home soil at the English Open Chainsaw Championships, held as part of the Cheshire Game and Country show in Tabley near Knutsford, Cheshire, on August Bank Holiday weekend.
