6' 9" forward, Bill Cole has become Coach John Lavery's latest addition to Cheshire Jets roster in the run up to the 2011/12 season.
Cole is a graduate of the University of Illinois in the USA where he made the starting five of the famous “Fighting Illini” throughout his college career. Regarded as a versatile and accomplished defensive player, Cole can play the 3 or 4 spot interchangeably.
His coach at University used him to guard the other team’s best players, regardless of their position. Cole successfully held top scorers in the NCAA Div 1 league to season lows on multiple occasions and also managed an impressive three point shooting percentage.
Jets’ Head Coach John Lavery said,
"It is really great to have a player of Bill’s caliber coming to the Jets. He played at a really high level last year at college and I have no doubt that he will bring his winning mentality to the Jets this year.”
Lavery added,
“He is a great defensive player for his size, and he can score both inside and outside. He also has an excellent 3 point shot for a big guy, and a very a high basketball IQ.”
Cole is also looking forward to the prospect of joining up with the Jets.
“Playing in the U.K. is very exciting to me. I am looking forward to competing for trophies, and from what I have heard from the staff at the Jets we have the team to do it this year.”
He added,
“The team goals are always first in my mind. All the individuals experience success if the team does. Personally I am looking to show my skills to the coaching staff and the league, and secure my spot as one of the top players in the league. I also want to be known to the coach and to the fans as the hardest worker - the guy who hustled, was prepared to dive on the floor and never took a play off.”
Cole joins the familiar faces of Matt Schneck and Colin O’Reilly on the roster with additional players due to be added very soon.
