City-based visitor attraction Chester Cathedral has received a 2014 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence award.
The accolade, which honours hospitality excellence, is only awarded to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveller reviews on TripAdvisor.
Visitor attractions awarded the Certificate of Excellence are located all over the world and represent the upper echelon of businesses listed on the website.
Businesses must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five to receive the prestigious award.

Director of Operations at Chester Cathedral, Simon Warburton, said:
“We are delighted to receive the excellence award from TripAdvisor. We have been working very hard over the past couple of years to improve our visitor experience – by developing our facilities, nurturing our staff and adding value to our tourism offer - and it is paying off. We made huge headway with our visitor numbers last year – recording an increase in footfall of 350% - and this year’s figures are also very encouraging.”
Vice Dean of Chester Cathedral, Peter Howell-Jones, said:
“The TripAdvisor award means a lot to us. It is our job to welcome people to our vibrant community of worship and show them hospitality. Last year, we removed our admission fee in the hope that this would help return the cathedral to the people - local residents and tourists alike. This year, we opened our Cathedral at Height visitor attraction which is already proving very popular.”
