Thursday the 29th September will see Chesterfield College officially launch its brand new training facility located just off junction 29a of the M1 at Waterloo Court, Markham Vale.
Based at the heart of a growing logistics corridor the new training centre has been built following close work between the college and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust which has provided a capital grant for the build and a further grant that supported logistics skills training for unemployed individuals residing in areas of high deprivation.
The new centre offers the latest in logistics training including a dedicated fork lift truck training facility as well as an impressive 40-seat conference facility and purpose built classrooms to deliver a variety of training solutions.
The College training centre is specifically designed to respond to the anticipated rise in demand for logistics training from companies setting up at Markham Vale and in similar developments on the former Coalite site near junction 29A and at Staveley. These new developments, coupled with the large number of established warehousing companies already located along side the M1 is set to establish the area as the nation’s distribution hub.
Since 2006, Chesterfield College has been providing logistics training as a Centre of Vocational Excellence and the launch of Junction 29a forms part of its strategy for growth into the logistics sector and provides excellent new commercial training premises. It will allow the College to develop its existing training provision further to respond to the needs of an industry sector that employs over 156,000 in the East Midlands.
Emily Williams, Special Projects Manager at Chesterfield College, explains, “Logistics isn’t just about driving goods vehicles and as such we are developing our provision at Waterloo Court to support organisational training needs throughout the logistics supply chain. We offer industry relevant training and qualifications in subjects ranging from Business Administration and Customer Service right through to Warehouse Operations, Health and Safety and Forklift Operation.
“We offer a variety of flexible delivery methods too so we can best meet the needs of employers and learners, for example alongside the training we offer at Waterloo Court we also offer a wide range of industry-specific apprenticeships meaning most of the training can be delivered in the workplace.”

Carrying out the opening honours at the ceremony will be the College’s Chairman of the Corporation and Trustee of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Frank Smith alongside Chair of the Coalfield Regeneration Trust, Peter McNestry.
