Playing with a bare 13 players Chargers took the lead on 5 minutes when Ryan Banner burst through to score, Macauley Watkinson adding the extras. It took a further ten minutes to add to the tally when Doxey crashed over for his first, converted again by Watkinson for 12-0. Chargers spilled the ball on 3 or 4 occasions when a try seemed likely, the wind playing its part but a little over-eagerness also involved. Half time came with the Chargers defence staying solid.
The game seemed to be put to bed when Ben Doxey scored under the sticks, taking four opponents with him after being part of some magnificent handling that had taken the Chargers from their own 20m in three plays. He then scored his hat trick with a burst on the left side and a dummy that was bought by the Elland defence. This kick was missed but the score stood at 22-0 with 15 minutes to go. The Chargers temporarily switched off and with Corey Cox injured a penalty was taken quickly and the Elland centre spotted the hole where Cox had been and ran in for a good score. The conversion made it 6-22 and immediately from the restart some good handling from the Elland stand off released his centre and winger to race away for a second score, converted well to give the bottom side a sniff of a shock with the Chargers down to 12. However Doxey, along with Aaron Wycherley, Munashe Fumhanda and Matley Brain were still punching holes through the Elland middle and Doxey scored again to calm the nerves. Fumhanda converted and the game was rounded off with fine solo try by Watkinson, Sean Briscoe's conversion hitting the post as full time came.
Lee Walters was pleased with the result and the performance. "We ground it out today. Some lads played out of position and they did what we asked. We could have won by more but Elland are an improving side and a win's a win." Next week the under 15s visit Wibsey in Bradford.
