Remember, remember the 5th of November….  This year we are treated to Bonfire Night falling on a Saturday which means we can all make the most of it and enjoy a great night out.  There are many events for you to choose from in and around Chesterfield.

First and on Friday 4th November this year is the Firework display at Bolsover Castle.  Against the backdrop of Bolsover Castle you can be sure of a spectacular display!

Stand Road Recreation Ground are holding their Fireworks Display with Free buses running along 6 routes to aid peoples attendance to this FREE entry event.

Enjoy the thrills of the Staveley Town Council’s Community Bonfire and Fireworks display.  Remember to get your entries in for the ‘Build a Guy’ Competition, to Staveley Hall by the 3rd November and judging will take place on the night.

One of the most spectacular fireworks display promises to be Chatsworth Houses’ 2011 celebrations.  There will be a breath-taking display, a huge bonfire and fantastic live entertainment throughout the night, including circus entertainers and popular Panfire steel band.  Refreshments will also be available including the Farm Shop sausage grill, gourmet coffee, beer and mulled wine.

The Great Fire of Dronfield is to be held again at the Dronfield Woodhouse Sports and Social Club.

A Bonfire Spectacular of an evening is to be held at Brampton Manor Country Club, complete with live bands, outdoor bars and even a fire juggler, for added entertainment.

If Fireworks are not your thing, why not try the Barn Dance and Pie and Pea Supper at Calow Community Centre, where you will be guided through dances!

Now for the serious bit.....

Bonfire Night should be a fun evening for all the family to enjoy and with a few small safety precautions you can be sure everyone stays safe.

Remember The Firework Code- Before It Explodes

  • NEVER buy fireworks without the BS 7114 mark on them
  • Plan your firework display to make it safe and enjoyable.
  • Read and follow the instructions on each firework using a torch if necessary.
  • Keep fireworks in a closed box and use them one at a time.
  • Light at arm's length with a taper and stand well back.
  • Keep naked flames, including cigarettes, away from fireworks.
  • Never return to a firework once it has been lit, it could still explode even if it has not yet gone off.
  • NEVER put fireworks in your pockets or throw them!
  • Direct any rocket fireworks well away from spectators.
  • Never use paraffin or petrol on a bonfire.
  • Never drink alcohol whilst setting off fireworks
  • Minimise stress to your pets by keeping them indoors
  • Never give a sparkler to under 5s and supervise all others
  • Make sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving.

Your only problem should be deciding which fabulous event to attend!  Enjoy and stay safe whatever you do!
