Chesterfield town centre market, operated by Chesterfield Borough Council, is taking part in the national campaign led by the National Association of British Market Authorities from 23 – 27 May.
The campaign aims to attract new market traders and create a buzz in general for our local markets. During the week, the council will be offering new traders the opportunity to trade for £10 (terms and conditions will apply).
The council also aims to highlight the vital role the market plays in local communities – not only in retail but as a community asset and a focal point of the town centre.
To encourage residents and visitors to shop on our town centre market and indoor market (currently in the temporary market hall on New Square), the council will also be running a competition.
Customers can win an iPad Mini during the week. Competition forms will be given out by traders with every purchase. Once completed, these need to be taken to the indoor market hall and posted in the competition box.
Residents and visitors can follow the campaign on Twitter using #loveyourlocalmarket and leave their views on the market.
Councillor Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Borough Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism said: “Chesterfield market stands at the very centre of our town and is at the heart of our community.
“Love you local market week is a great opportunity to remind residents and visitors about the fresh local produce and bargains to be had there.”
