The first 20 minutes saw the sides trade solid defence, with the Chargers coming closest with two disallowed tries, until the Outlaws broke the deadlock with a converted try. Ten more minutes passed before the Chargers got on the scoreboard, Dan Rymell making it 4-6. Just before the break the Outlaws extended their lead with another converted try – 4-12 remaining the half time score.

In the second half the Chargers started quickly and tries from Sam Butler, after a Brad Gozzard ball steal, and Josh Rymell after a smart kick from Ali McDougall, put the home team in front. However two missed chances and a defensive error let the Nottingham side back in the game and they took advantage, building a 30-14 lead with 3 more tries.

McDougall’s try dragged the Chargers back into the game but the Outlaws got one of their own to leave them with what appeared to be a comfortable 36-20 lead with 8 minutes left.

A frantic finish followed with tries from Pope and Brown pulling the Derbyshire side to within 4 but the last play saw an overlap pass not stick and the chance to equalise or win the game was gone.
