A must win game at Yeovil, otherwise the Spireites would be relegated. A few of the Town fans were wearing fancy dress, a few dressed up as sailors, one guy dressed up as woman, even Stig was there. The only change to the team was Robertson came in for Ford, I felt down both Boden and Whitaker has both had done enough in the last couple of games to deserve a start, both were on the bench again.
Yeovil were forced into an early change Agard coming on for Obika, in the 8th minute, Bowery scored from a lovely cross from Randall that caught the defence by surprise. Also Walsall were losing, at this point Spireites would be safe for another week. After 26 minutes the scores were level, Blizzard scoring from close range. Yeovil finished the half stronger, Williams seeing his shot go inches wide, Half time 1-1.
Whittaker came on for Juan, the formation went to a conventional 4-4-2. The Spireites looked fired up, they were fighting to stay in League One. Westcarr and Bowery both had chances to score, but both went wide. Moussa fed Whittaker, who hit a shot from 25 yards out, which took a deflecton on its way into the net. The Spireites fans were bouncing, could Chesterfield pull off their fourth straight win in a row to take their relegation battle into the last game of the season.
Sadly their lead was short lived, as Agard turned and shot from the edge of the box to put the scores level. Westcarr had a great chance to score, but Walker got a touch on it, to put it out for a corner. Boden came on for Mendy, could he save the Spireites again.
With 10 minutes remaining Williams fired home from distance, to put Yeovil 3-2 up. Although the Spireites kept battling away, they couldnt find the net.
At least the Spireites went down fighting, and they are going down, but they take the St Johnstones Paint trophy with them, and the great memories of the special day out at Wembley.
I am a blogger for the Derbyshire Times living in Chesterfield. I like to write about the Spireites, whom i follow Home and Away. I will be writing on here, about the season ahead, Match previews, Reports...
