Keeping Your Pets Safe On Bonfire Night.

The firework displays are about to start but they aren’t normally fun for our pets. Many animals get scared by the loud bangs on and around Bonfire Night so here are some top tips to make firework celebrations less frightening for your pet.

  • Make sure your pet can’t escape if there’s a sudden noise and is always kept in a safe and secure environment.
  • Give your dog or cat somewhere to hide if he or she wants to. It could be under some furniture or in a cupboard. They will need access to it at all times.
  • If your pet shows signs of fear, try to ignore it. Unless they are likely to harm themselves then they should be left alone. Fussing over your pet will make things worse in the long run.
  • It is useful to make sure your pet is microchipped just in case they do escape and run off.
  • Only walk dogs during daylight hours and try and keep cats and dogs indoors in the evening when there are likely to be fireworks.
  • Close all windows and curtains when it starts to get dark. Putting on music can also help to mask and muffle any loud noise from outside.
