FILM fans could soon be enjoying movies at The Core theatre here in Corby.

Tonight (Tuesday 6th Sept) borough councillors are set to agree to give £50,000 to the theatre to buy film projection equipment.

The money would be an advance from the grant of £297,500 which the council will award to Corby Cube Theatre Trust for 2012-13.

Members of the One Corby Policy Committee are being advised to agree to the payment, to allow the theatre to start showing films from next month. The Core plans to show movies twice a week, as well as offering films for children during the school holidays. It will not be in competition with the new six-screen Odeon complex when it opens in George Street.

A report to be discussed at the meeting said: “The purchase of digital film equipment would allow the theatre to broaden its programme, offering a diverse, specialised and contemporary film offer to the local community.

“This would also include independent and art house films on occasions and second run films where they are shown sometimes after cinemas nationwide.”

If The Core goes ahead with the plan, the film projection equipment would allow it to provide better facilities for conferences, training seminars and exhibitions, as well as a satelite link up to show live events such as theatre and opera broadcasts.

This should certainly popular with local residents.
