Corby Council saved the summer holidays earlier this week as they approved a motion to fund the Free Swimming initiative up to 1st September 2010.
The Coalition Government announced last week that it is pulling the plug on Free Swimming for under 16s and over 50s, much to the disappointment of nearly 12,000 swimmers in Corby who have already signed up to the scheme.
The scheme is now only funded by the Government until 31st July meaning that funding will dry out just before the school summer holidays begin. Members of Corby Council earlier this week decided that they would ease this cut for Corby’s residents and fund an extra month of the Free Swimming scheme, to make sure that Corby's young people don’t miss out during their holidays. They hope that Corby's young and older residents will take advantage of the extra month provided and have a great summer.
