Facebook Pages for Business – Changes
Like or Unlike?
It’s well known that Facebook have plans to introduce changes to Facebook Pages for businesses to bring them into line with a similar look and feel to Personal Facebook Profiles and some subtle changes have already begun.
Firstly it appears Facebook has introduced ‘Recent Activity’ to the Business page wall which in it self is neither here nor there, however this does push your most recent post down your wall feed.
For me, the new ‘suggest to friends’ platform is interesting. When anybody now suggests a page, their friends see it as a ‘recommended page’ which includes your Business page name, profile picture and how many people like the page – Basically a facebook ‘Like Box’!
This (for me) is a move in the right direction having a ‘Like Box’ is a great marketing tool, especially if lots of people Like your page already, as this is seen as ‘Social Proof’.
Social proof is a very powerful marketing tool, as most people like the same things, and are more likely to like the things their friends and peers like – So it’s a shame Facebook are not using a Facebook ‘Like Box’ that informs people how many of their friends like a page to – “54 of your friends like this”
I also like the change of wording to ‘Recommended Page’ and ‘Send Recommendation” instead of ‘Suggest to Friends’. It may only be a simple change, but never under estimate the power of words – Recommendations are more likely to be acted upon than a suggestion!
The option to include a message with the ‘recommendation’ has been removed which is real a shame, as we know, if we give a reason (because) people are more likely to comply with what you have asked them to do. “Check this page out…Because they have some great offers” so let’s hope Facebook bring this feature back!
So for me the changes get 6.5 out of 10
