Dangerous Taxis in Coventry

Now that the party season is starting, far more people will be leaving their cars at home and flagging down taxis to get to and from their destination.

However, I for one will be a little more wary of the vehicle I get into since reading the article by Chomice Wright in the Coventry Times newspaper last week about the dangerous taxis driving around Coventry!

In just one rainy night, police stopped 43 vehicles round Coventry and removed 11 from the roads after they were found to have serious defects. Taxis were found to have seatbelt problems and leaky exhausts and the worst case involved a taxi driver whose cab had three bald tyres, a loose bumper and serious suspension faults!

Now they’re not trying to frighten us, they’re trying to reassure us, and the police operation did target older vehicles, which are more likely to have maintenance problems. The majority of taxi cab drivers are responsible business owners and rooting out these irresponsible cab owners is about giving the people of Coventry confidence when using a taxi cab.

I’ll still be using taxi cabs whenever I’m out on the town – I’ll just make sure that when I hail a cab, it looks well maintained before I open the door and get inside!  Ali, thebestofcoventry
