In August 2006 the biggest change to the pricing structure of UK postage was introduced.
Known as “pricing in proportion” the change meant that there was no longer a standard cost based on weight – size and thickness also now plays a part.
There are, however, ways you can ensure you pay the lowest postage price possible.
Regardless of whether you are planning a marketing campaign, sending out invoices or just mailing the odd letter it’s important to consider how you send your items.
Postage costs increase based on weight, size and thickness. An unfolded letter will cost more to send than a folded one, so if you are just sending a few sheets of paper, fold them and put them in a C5 envelope to benefit from the lowest postal rates.
I regularly see people sending a single sheet letter unfolded in a C4 envelope, this increase the postage unnecessarily by over a third.
If you are creating a marketing mailing piece (e.g. a postcard) then keep within the maximum size permissible for the “letter” category of postage – 240mm x 165mm
Don’t always assume that Royal Mail is the only option for Mailing & Distribution.
