"Born Too Soon"

No sooner had I promised my friend, Lisa, that I would help to raise awareness of the Baby Lifeline 2009 Maternity Equipment Appeal, than I see the charity's founder, Judy Ledger from Coventry, on ITV this week. Monday night's "Tonight" programme was a documentary by Kym Marsh, star of Coronation Street and ex-member of the pop band, 'Hear Say'. Her report was on babies born prematurely.

Kym's own heart-wrenching story began with the birth of her son, Archie, born in February of this year at only 22 weeks. He sadly died after only a few moments of life.

Prematurity is the greatest cause of infant death in Britain. In the UK, over 50,000 babies are born prematurely each year, which is one of the highest rates in Europe and still rising.

During the course of the documentary, Kym highlights other issues that contribute to infant mortality, including a shortage of beds, services, equipment and specialised nurses. All reiterated by Judy Ledger of Baby Lifeline in Coventry - The Mother & Baby Charity dedicated to raising funds for valuable equipment needed for special baby care units in Coventry and throughout the UK.

So, once again, I'm raising awareness of the Baby Lifeline 2009 Maternity Equipment Appeal and asking you to take a look at their "Be My Baby" online auction. Take a look and bid on something special, and let's hope the money raised will make a BIG difference to a future baby born too soon.

Thanks for reading. Ali at thebestof Coventry
