A humanist ceremony is non religious and for those with no religious faith, or who do not desire religious ritual, it is likely to offer a more appropriate and somewhat less formal alternative. For those bereaved, the funeral ceremony conducted by a humanist celebrant provides an important opportunity for family and friends to meet together to focus their thoughts on the person who has died. Whilst acknowledging their loss, it should help them to celebrate or honour the life that was lived with dignity, honesty and in a sincere, personal and meaningful way. Whatever the circumstances of the life and death, the celebrant will be non-judgemental and sensitive to the wishes of both the deceased and his/her family.
